“Milo The Mad God” Official Pitch!

MTMG COVER

WELCOME TO THE LAND OF

MILO THE MAD GOD!

Have you ever had a really bad day? The sort of day where your car won’t start, your mom dies, your cat gets run over and all your dreams fail? Milo has had days like that… Sequentially… For years. So he finally did what any sane person would do… He stopped being sane.

This cartoon takes place in the land of Olim, where Milo is God, because Olim is all in Milo’s head. There I chronicle the interactions between this unstable “deity” and the hapless citizens of his imagination.

Doing their best to get by, these citizens struggle to make sense of a world that defies explanation. A world where religions form, hucksters sell snake oil, snakes sell huckster-oil, kingdoms are established and philosophers do…Whatever the heck philosophers do.

Milo The Mad God (MTMG) has dozens of characters, from a pair of self-righteously religious siblings demanding Milo get his act together, to an Orc suffering an identity crisis, to an unpleasant forest nymph named Onion (it’s a family name).

They all have their real world counterpoints too, from a pair of orderlies demanding Milo get his act together, to a guy with Orc like teeth suffering from self esteem issues, to an unpleasant old onion. These people can be every bit as irrational, passionate, thoughtful, stupid and bonkers as Milo himself. But Milo, being a well-intentioned fool, does his best to keep his creations happy. He shouldn’t though, ‘cause he’s bad at it.

The land of Olim is whatever Milo dreams it to be. Because he can dream anything, there’s no limit to the wealth of material that I can explore in the name of comedy. As a cartoonist, I can parody current events, public figures and institutions from the safe distance offered by fantasy. Like Bloom County and the Simpsons, MTMG will have an ever-expanding cast of characters all with a new element and perspective to add to the comedy.

MTMG is an opportunity to create a comic strip that will generate laughs for years to come. I believe that the questions and conflicts of this premise are what gives this character and story-world the legs to last for ages.

After all, it is the story of people trying to make sense of God, and who doesn’t regularly wonder if God is mad?

A BIT ABOUT THE CREATOR

(Of the comicstrip, not the universe)

Milo the Mad God is about a cartoonist who suffers a mental breakdown and retreats into his imagination. As it is written and illustrated by myself, an extremely sane content creator looking forward to the glamorous life of a syndicated cartoonist, I have a certain affinity for my lead character’s need to create his own world.

I studied at Eastern Washington University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Electronic Media and Film, and it was there that I created my first comic strip “Bleeding Ink”, through the school paper.

My comedic writing has since been performed live at IO West in Hollywood, featured as the book for four different musicals, one of which was performed on the east coast in 2014 and in the web-series “The Adventures of Chadwick Periwinkle”. Most recently, my writing can be heard in a seventeen-part comedy podcast “S & A”, currently available on iTunes.

I fell into traditional art very much by accident. Originally doing commissions for friends before going on to do concept art for films and television, movie posters, storyboards, comic books and, yes, even the occasional comic strip.

With the joint loves of comedy and drawing, It was just a matter of time before Milo worked his way into my brain matter and took over. Now I can think of nothing but introducing him to the world, whether the world is ready for him or not.

Milo and I are excited to be here at last.
